how do I know if I want to be a democrat or a republican?

I would like some of the basic views of each party. And also what is definition of a liberal and a conervative?

    You don't! You vote for someone who you believe has the best interests of the American people at heart. When "republican" or "democrat" becomes more important than "American", we're in for the bullshit we're dealing with as a country right now. Unless you believe whoever you're voting for can and will change that, find someone else to vote for.

    Ultimately, this is your journey.

    But we do know of a couple of online tools that can help. The most well known is the Political Compass Test. It will help you get a sense of where you are on the spectrum.

    The other thing you can do is head over to Project Vote Smart's Vote Easy tool. It allows you to answer some simple questions and compares them to the candidates in your state.
