What are loophole type primaries?

I am really trying to understand how my state (PA) does its primaries. It says it is a "loophole" type primary. What does this mean? I tried to research it but I am having a hard time understanding it. Does it mean that my vote really does not mean much? I really want to get people out there to vote, but if we can't even understand how it works, then we will be highly discouraged. Can you help me (and others) understand the loophole primary and how our voting in the primaries can help our preferred candidate get elected? Thank you.

Pennsylvania's primaries are closed primaries. This means that you can only participate in a particular party primary if you are registered for that party. If you want to vote in the Republican Primary you will need to be a registered republican so on and so forth. Read about PA primary info here.

Good news! If you are not currently registered to vote for the party's primary that you wish to participate in you have until 30 days before the election to change your party registration. http://www.votespa.com/portal/server.pt/community/register_to_vote/13518/registration_deadlines/585324
